Climate change, heavily influenced and accelerated by human conduct, is a scientific fact. The United Nations report on climate change addresses the singularly most consequential issue facing humanity. http://www.ipcc.ch/report/sr15/ Not a hoax. (Some people are certain god flooded the entire earth during Biblical times, drowning everyone and everything, after instructing Noah to build an ark and collect all the animals two-by-two. Many of those believers are the ones who think climate change is a hoax.) If you are a single-issue voter, this is it. Period. The end. Next, of course, is the geopolitical, existential threat of Mr. Trump having the most powerful military arsenal in world history at his disposal and whim. Not a hoax.

It is fact that, top down, the GOP is doing everything conceivable to undermine the institutions that safeguard and enforce the rule of law in order to protect a morally bankrupt and entirely corrupt executive. It is fact that the GOP majorities in the House and Senate have wholly abdicated their constitutional duties and breached their solemn oaths of office to serve as an independent check on the executive, to protect and defend the Constitution and the United States from enemies foreign and domestic. It is fact that under Trump the United States has less than zero top-down moral leadership here and abroad. It is fact that the executive has no regard for human rights here or elsewhere. It remains a fact that immigrant children and parents are being separated from each other, some permanently, under official executive directive. It is fact that immigrants are taking jobs Americans refuse to perform, helping farmers and boosting the economy. It is fact that immigrants commit fewer crimes per capita than US citizens.

It is fact that Trump’s propaganda machine plays primarily to small-minded, white-privileged (mostly) men, stoking fear that said individuals could somehow lose their privileged status. Of course, this fear, if realized, could only improve decision making (decisions based on merit, anyone?) and the status of minorities and others whom have historically been subjected to the mob mentality currently being projected by the GOP. It is a likely fact that Dr. Ford was sexually assaulted and shamed by now-Justice Kavanaugh. Eleven angry white men, fearing truth, were forced to allow what was a manifestly fake investigation. To placate women. It is fact that a grotesquely high percentage of girls and women are sexually abused and assaulted by boys and men — Mr. Trump and the Senate, permanent habitants, animated the precise culture that drives victims inward, underground and silent.

The angry mob Trump and the GOP fear is an electorate flooding the polls, exercising the franchise as the only meaningful way to stop America’s rapid downward spiral, to show compassion here and around the world, to reinstate and enforce the rule of law, to assure some accountability on a primitive-thinking, lawless executive, and to salve their shame and embarrassment that the United States could elect something like this and behave this way.
