Will this be the year Trump is held to account? I have asked that question at the beginning of each of the past several years. Each year ends with a resounding no.

The Jan. 6 Select Committee submitted its final Report as the 117th Congress closes and the 118th Congress prepares to open under new control and uncertain leadership in the House. The Select Committee made a symbolic, non-binding referral of Trump to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution, supported with evidence it believes establishes beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump violated no fewer than four separate criminal statutes: conspiracy to defraud the United States; obstruction of a congressional proceeding; conspiracy to submit a false statement; and inciting or assisting in an insurrection. See also Criminal Referrals to the DOJ and . . . It’s a Wrap.

The crimes the Select Committee identified do not include many other crimes Trump may have committed over the years, including during his term in office, some of which likely fall within applicable statutes of limitation. We are only now getting a glimpse at his tax records.
