There Is A Path Toward Republican Redemption*
Support A Formal Resolution In Congress That The Fourteenth Amendment Disqualifies Trump From Running For Office
They Won’t
In her recent The Emperor of Chaos Has No Clothes, Maureen Dowd points out that “Republicans refused to convict Trump on impeachment charges and ban him from running for public office. Now they’re living with the consequences.”
Earlier this year in The Stadium Is On Fire, I posited that the Republican Party was at a crossroads for its survival and the survival of the country.
In what I considered an easy decision, they could develop and execute an inclusive albeit conservative platform, one that’s inviting to the country’s diverse and changing demographics, to gain and maintain power and set and follow an agenda consistent with those principles.
Or
They could cheat: forget about winning on principle by continuing its MAGA entrenchment with Trump as leader and mascot, adopting false narratives and ignoring facts, evidence, and the will of the majority; change the election rules in battleground states to assure they win by blocking or disincentivizing liberal-leaning voters and, when they lose, using elected and appointed MAGA loyalists to arrest and change the outcome based on some manufactured claim of irregularity.
