On Thursday July 13, 2023, U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry testified before the Republican-led House Foreign Affairs Committee’s oversight subcommittee concerning his negotiations with China. In one heated exchange Scott Perry (R-PA) accused Kerry of “drumming up a ‘problem that does not exist’ in global warming.”

Kerry pushed back, asking why “the world’s scientists and 195 global governments behind the Paris climate accord would make up global warming.”

Perry responded, “Because they’re grifting, like you are.Kerry Spars with House Republicans ahead of Beijing trip. [See Notes, below, on Perry.]

While Kerry was grifting, coincidentally, one-third of United States citizens were under the National Weather Service’s heat wave advisory. Affected states include Arizona, California, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. As of this posting, Phoenix is in day 17 of temperatures above 110 degrees Fahrenheit and is on track to shatter its 18-day record. US heat wave prompts advisory for 112 million in Southwest.

While Kerry was grifting, by happenstance, the Northeast is experiencing another so-called 100-year storm 12 years after the last one, with devastating floodwaters and severe damage to infrastructure of every kind.
