Will A.G. Sean Reyes (R-UT) Finally Be Impeached?*
He Disgraces The State Of Utah, His Office, The Rule of Law, And The Legal Profession
It’s hard to fathom that in deep red Utah where zero public and political accountability exists on the right, its Republican-led legislature just might clean up a mess — wreckage in the words of A.G. Sean Reyes — in state government created by someone from within its own party.
In 2013, Utah Governor Gary Herbert appointed private attorney Sean Reyes to serve the next three years as the state’s Attorney General after Reyes’s predecessor resigned during his first year in office. Reyes’s predecessor was under investigation for alleged public corruption and was later criminally charged. For obvious reasons, the Utah Attorney General’s office assigned the prosecution to a county attorney’s office. The former Attorney General went to trial and was acquitted by a jury on all charges. In response to the not guilty verdict, Reyes said:
“Regardless of how you feel about the outcome of this case, we should be appreciative of a legal system in America that is not perfect but is among the best in the world. Our belief in and deference to the Rule of Law is the bedrock of that system.”
